Donald Melvin Roberson passed away unexpectedly on November 26, 2012 in his Newport Beach home. He was 69, and had lived a life blessed by faith in God and joyful service to those in need, no matter their story. Don was born in Bell, California on March 4, 1943 to Melvin and Vivian Roberson. In 1958, the family moved to Newport Beach, where Don and his brother attended Newport Harbor High School. Don played football and ran track in high school and at Occidental College, where he majored in Political Science. His love for athletics continued throughout his life. In 1965, he married Ann, whom he had met in high school and dated throughout her college years at USC. They were devoted partners for nearly half a century. Don’s call as an inspirational leader began when he delivered the team prayer before a high school football game and continued throughout his life. A devout Christian, he followed the path he’d been called to walk -- whether working as a contractor in Palm Desert, Scottsdale or Laguna Beach, or traveling through Europe with Ann. Positive, generous and kind with a ready laugh, Don lived each day with wonder and selfless gratitude -- a light to countless friends and strangers. He was involved in various ministries, including men’s bible study groups, elder care and missions to a Thailand orphanage. In addition to Ann, he is survived by his son, Kevin Roberson (San Francisco); daughter, Brynne Roberson (Long Beach); brother, Dave Roberson (Newport Beach);three grandchildren and many devoted in-laws. Donations can be made in Don’s name to Church By The Sea in Laguna Beach: www.lagunachurchbythesea.org.
