Gordon MacDonald (Don) Thomas passed away in Newport Beach, California on Friday June 15th, 2012 after his heroic battle with throat cancer. As a Southern California native, he impacted the surfing, sailing and ocean community immensely. Through his contributions as publisher of Surfer Magazine and his own passion for surfing and the ocean, Don will always be remembered as an important part of surf history. He is survived by his ex wife Joanne Seuss Thomas, their 3 children Bradley MacGregor Thomas, Karly Michelle Simpson, Stacey Lynne Garmshausen and 5 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Surfing Heritage Foundation in July. Donations can be made to the Surfing Heritage Foundation.
