HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Huntington Beach City School District will

conduct a second meeting tonight to discuss the possibility of charging

parents for busing students to and from school.

District staff is conducting a study on whether to establish a fee for

bus riders because the district is spending about $140,000 more than what

the state provides for such transportation.

Ten Orange County school districts already charge $1 to $2 a day for a

bus ride to and from school. Nearby districts Fountain Valley and

Newport-Mesa charge $1 a day, which costs parents $180 annually.

The meeting will at 7 p.m. in the staff development room at the District

Education Center, 20451 Craimer Lane, Huntington Beach.
