High school: the best of times and the worst of times. OCC’s Repertory

Theatre Company brings the bad and the good humorously to life in David

Rimmer’s “Album.” The play tells the story of four high school students

growing up in the 1960s. Performed in OCC’s Drama Lab Studio, the show

Pig lovers beware and pork lovers rejoice: The Sutton Place Hotel is

throwing its fourth annual Cuban Pig Roast Sunday starting at 5 p.m.

Besides the skewered porker, participants can expect dishes like yuca,

congri, black beans and rice and planitos maduras. The price is $49 for

adults, $20 for children age 12 and under, free for children age 5 and

under. The Hotel is at 4500 MacArthur Blvd., Newport Beach. For more

That rumble in the air isn’t an earthquake, it’s the sound of 1,500

classic domestic cars at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The Labor Day car

show and cruise is $8 for adults, $7 for military and seniors, and free

for children under 12. The fairgrounds is at 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.

What exactly is “performance poetry”? It’s what happens on the first

Tuesday of every month at 8 p.m. at the Gypsy Den Cafe and Reading Room

at The Lab Anti-Mall, 2930 Bristol St., Costa Mesa. Today’s high-octane

poet is Michael Kramer, author of “Quality of Light” and “Behind My

WEDNESDAYSee the luminous work of Peter Alexander at OCMA before the

light goes out. “In This Light,” a full-career survey of Alexander’s

work, runs through Sept. 12. The show comprises 65 works and traces

Alexander’s development through the ‘60s and ‘70s. At the Beal Galleries

of The Orange County Museum of Art, 850 San Clemente Drive, Newport
