Navy Fireman Kevin M. Leslie, son of Sherrie L. Bowie of Newport
Beach, departed on a six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard the
aircraft carrier USS Constellation.
Leslie’s ship is scheduled to visit ports in Australia, Hawaii, Japan,
Korea and Malaysia as the lead ship of the USS Constellation Battle
Group.
Carriers, such as the USS Constellation, are deployed around the world
to maintain a U.S. presence and provide a rapid response in times of
crisis. They serve as a visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and
offer the most versatile weapons available, including Tomahawk cruise
missiles and tactical aircraft.
Leslie graduated in 1998 from Norwalk-La Mirada High School and joined
the Navy in February.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Hossain A. Tamaddoni, son of Hossain and

part of the Middle East Force.
Tamaddoni’s ship departed on its maiden deployment in April to support
U.N. sanctions levied against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. His ship has
made port visits to Saipan, Singapore and Thailand.
While in Singapore, Tamaddoni and fellow crew members had the

shelves and moving playground items and furniture.
Tamaddoni graduated from Dana Hills High School in 1996 and joined the
Navy in November 1997.
