Women’s soccer: Vanguard U. blanks foe

COSTA MESA - Betsy Nienhuis and Alexis Newbold each scored two

goals as Vanguard University women’s soccer team won its first game of

the season Wednesday, 4-0, over Cal State Hayward in the Lions’ home

opener.

Goalie Robin Landauer made five saves for the Lions (1-2), who were

ranked 19th in the NAIA preseason poll.

Assists were dished out by Brittany Braun, Ganesa Cobb and Liz McCary

for the Lions.

VU outshot the Pioneers, 19-5, in the contest.

Next up, the Lions will travel to Pennsylvania to take on Gannon

University Saturday at 1 p.m. local time.
