Lions sparkle at Whittier
WHITTIER - Vanguard University athletes sparkled at Saturday’s
running of the Whittier College Cross County Invitational, highlighted by
a fifth-place finish by Monica Landa, who was the first collegiate
women’s runner to finish in a race led by four club or post-collegiate
runners.
Landa was time in 23:38.3 for the six-kilometer event.
Tenth (third in collegiate circles) was the Lions’ Maribel Delgado
with a 24:12.9 effort, and teammate Jessica Martinez was 23rd in 25:26.3.
Vanguard U. finished fifth overall in the women’s team standings.
On the men’s side, Josh Schultz was 31st in 20:55.4, and teammate
Shawn JHohnson was 36th in 21:07.9.
