Louisville comes up short

LONG BEACH - The women’s soccer team from the University of

Louisville came up a goal short on both sides of halftime Sunday in

nonconference play at Long Beach State and left George Allen Field on the

49ers’ campus with a hard-fought 2-0 loss.

Newport Harbor High product Jordan Fredriksen, a freshman out of Costa

Mesa, went the distance for the Cardinals in the net, and was credited

with six saves.

Long Beach State goalie Jihan Elgazzar had four saves and a shutout,

and was backed up by the scoring efforts of Kim Domen in the first half,

and Jennifer Reott in the final half to improve to 1-4. Louisville fell

to 1-4.

Domen scored with 11 minutes spent off an assist from Kelli Barrett,

who took a crosfs from Kim Stempkowski. Reott’s clincher came from the

left corner in the 60th minute off an assist from Tiffany Landgraff in a

game marked by 32 fouls (19 by the host 49ers).

Long Beach outshot the Cardinals from the field, 21-12.
