OBITUARY

Richard L. Soth, also known as “Grumps,” died Sept. 6. He was 73.

Born in Washington state, Soth attended Washington State University

and graduated in 1949 with a degree in business administration.

The 39-year Newport Beach resident, served in the Army Air Force and

managed business careers in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Soth also served as the board of directors for the South Coast

Repertory Theatre for nine years and was a member of Speak Up Newport.

As a tennis player, Soth ranked ninth in the country among other

70-year-old players.

Soth is survived by his wife, Virginia Harris Soth, son Richard Soth,

daughter Lauren Ramsey and grandchildren Emily Soth, Chelsea Chase, Carli

and Cade Ramsey.

Soth, who also belonged to the BBC Racquet Club, enjoyed playing golf

and the piano.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to

Soth’s favorite charity: Emmanuel Church, O.C. food bank, 1145 W.
