Armenian Apostolic Church defines its work as religious and spiritual,

national and social. Years of communism; the tremendous earthquake in

1988 that killed some 55,000 and left cities in ruins; the now fledgling

independence for Armenia; and recent war in Azerbaijan have created many

needs abroad and among immigrants establishing a new life here. The

church shoulders a great responsibility in meeting them. The worship is

Gregorian, with the traditional role of the priest as intercessor, the

deacon offering the litany and the choir and congregation chanting

responsively. Services are in Armenian, with the service book in Armenian

Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple is a Jodo Shin Buddhist temple.

Worship services are Sunday at 10 a.m. The service is Japanese and

English and includes sutra chanting and a teaching message. The message

is based on the teachings of Buddha’s words and concerning the three

treasures of Buddhism, how we are human beings, receiving the Buddha

Dharma, and receiving peace of mind. Often the teachings of Buddha are

related to a contemporary issue. Those attending can also make incense

and/or monetary offerings. The Dharma Society conducts lecture/discussion

series that are open to the public, Buddhists and non-Buddhists. There is

knew.’ The Zen Center of Costa Mesa offers a regular Zen meditation

Temple Bat Yahm of Newport Beach/Irvine is a reform congregation whose

purpose is to worship God in accordance with the faith of reform Judaism;

to promote religious education; to promote cultural and spiritual welfare

of its members as Jews and as members of the general community; and to

advance the liberal interpretation of the Jewish tradition. Weekly

services are on Friday at 8 p.m., except on the first Friday of the

month, when a family service is held instead at 6 p.m. Services are

traditional and include prayers, singing and a teaching. There is a lot

of Hebrew in the service, but prayer and song books are Hebrew/English

CALVARY CHURCH NEWPORT MESACalvary Church Newport Mesa aims to help

Fairview Community Church is a open-minded ministry that combines the

LA VINA DE NEWPORT MESA

La Vina de Newport Mesa was established in January 1998 to serve the

community, to make it a better, safer place to live by providing the

gospel to the community. Services are in Spanish and include praise and

worship with a strong emphasis on teaching the word of God. The focus of

Jose R. Coronado’s teaching is how the word of God is a message of hope

and that can transform each individual’s life. People can come in

whatever they are comfortable wearing. Child Care is provided for

Lighthouse Coastal Community Church is a church centered on prayer,
