Hurricanes blow perfect season for Killer Bees

It took 10 weeks do it, but an Adams Division rival finally

defeated the Killer Bees.

Owners of a nine-game win streak and with the division’s regular

season title already in hand, the Killer Bees had their shot at an

unbeaten regular season blown away by the Hurricanes, who used a stellar

defensive performance to post a 2-1 weekend victory at Coast 2 Coast

Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Kevin Caskey scored both of his team’s goals, one off an assist by

Ryan Ward, as the Hurricanes ended the regular season at 4-5-1.

Caskey ended the regular season as his team’s top scorer with 22

goals.

Ward, who also played in goal, recorded 15 saves for the Hurricanes.

Both teams are entered in this week’s Adams Division postseason

playoffs.

The triumph also helped the Hurricanes avenge two previous losses

to the Killer Bees, who won the first meeting, 7-3, back on July 23, and

7-5, on Aug. 13.

Austin Shannon scored his third goal of the season to account for

the Killer Bees offense.

It was the lowest offensive output of the season for the Killer

Bees, who averaged six goals per contest.

Despite the loss, the match marked the seventh time this season

that the Killer Bees - who opened the season with three shutout victories

- held an opponent to two or less goals.

In other games:

Termites 5, Red Wings 1

A balanced Termites scoring attack found Anna Hershberger, Brian

Kinder, Julien Laux, Brian Rock, and Ryan Butcher all scoring once, and

Laux collected an assist, as the Termites (3-6-1) ended the regular

season on a winning note, and won three of their final four matches.

The Red Wings dropped three of their final four regular season

matches.

Both teams will participate in this week’s division postseason

tournament.
