Rohrabacher brings flag to Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA -- He’s gone on to bigger chambers, but Rep. Dana

Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) nevertheless looked right at home at

City Hall on Monday evening.

Dressed casually and holding only a folded American flag and a

proclamation, Rohrabacher came by himself to the meeting to give Mayor

Gary Monahan the flag. He said it had flown at above Capitol Hill on June

29, the 46th anniversary of the incorporation of Costa Mesa as a city --

and in case anyone didn’t believe him, he brought a signed proclamation

from the official in charge of flying the Capitol’s flags.

“I love Costa Mesa,” Rohrabacher declared as he presided over the

pledge of allegiance and presented the flag. “I can’t think of a more

American city than Costa Mesa.”

Though he snuck out before the city’s residents took to the

microphones to complain about everything from “human waste” in their

yards to animal cruelty to the conduct of police officers against

homeless people in Talbert Marshes, Rohrabacher did spend a few minutes

hanging out with Monahan.

“We’re good friends,” said Rohrabacher. “We’ve walked precincts

together.”
