CdM cross country wins again
FULLERTON - Corona del Mar High senior standout Liz Morse broke a
course record (18:51) and captured the individual title, while the Sea
Kings’ girls cross country won the Sunny Hills Invitational Division II
championship Saturday.
The Sea Kings, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, won their second
straight invitational, on the heels of their season-opening title at
Laguna Hills.
At Sunny Hills, Morse broke the course standard set three years ago by
Jenny Burris of Ayala (18:53) and CdM had the best overall time (96:41)
of the day by three minutes, including Division I winner Brea (99:42).
Morse earned Athlete of the Meet honors.
Jenny Cummins (19:18), who won the junior race, Katie Quinlan (19:24),
third in the junior race, Diana Hossfeld (19:28) and Katherine Morse
(19:39) scored for Corona del Mar, while Jill Quye (19:42), who was third
in the senior race, and Season Meservey (19:46) rounded out the Sea
Kings’ championship effort.
In the juniior boys race, CdM’s Josh Yelsey was second in 16:02 and
Travis Beardslee third in 16:33. Kevin Kramer (17:16), Judd Heitbrink
(17:19) and Dustin Hodges (17:19) also scored for CdM, while David
Mittman (17:45) and Ben Inouye (17:51) rounded out the Sea Kings’ pack.
The Sea Kings host Pacific Coast League rival Laguna Beach Thursday at
their Back Bay Course.
