25th Anniversary celebration

Fountain Bowl in Fountain Valley is celebrating its 25th anniversary this

month. The bowling alley has a celebration slated for Sept. 23-26. Hot

dogs, soda and popcorn will be available for 25 cents each. Bowling and

shoe rental will be $1.25 all weekend. A drawing will be held for 25 new

bowling balls, given away every hour for 25 hours, starting Saturday, the

25th at 10 a.m.

Volunteers on horseback needed

The Therapeutic Riding Center of Huntington Beach needs volunteers on

Monday and Tuesday afternoons to help with horseback riding lessons for

students with disabilities.

Lessons are held at the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center on

Orange Coast Emmy

Tony Salas, an Orange Coast College technology supervisor, has been

awarded an Emmy by The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He

received a Los Angeles Area Emmy for Instructional Programming for his

work as graphic animator on a telecourse series produced by the Coast

Community College District, which includes Golden West and Coastline

community colleges, and OCC.

The telecourse, titled “Dollar$ & Sense: Personal Finance for the 21st

Century,” is a 26-segment production that’s being distributed to colleges

and universities throughout the nation by Coast Telecourses,

headquartered at Coastline Community College in Fountain Valley.

The telecourse was produced at KOCE-TV, Channel 50, the Coast Community

College District’s PBS television station located on the Golden West

campus in Huntington Beach.

Bank on it

Citibank Huntington Beach is inviting parents to bring in their 7- to

10-year-old children for a behind-the-scenes tour of the bank and a

lesson on the importance of saving from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 7552

Edinger Ave. The bank will provide games, prizes and refreshments for

everyone and $10 to begin a new savings account that’s opened for a child

Citicorp Investment Services is presenting a open house and free

presentation on “Why People Invest” from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the

The Huntington Beach Central Library is offering a free program for

students interested in learning how to use library resources to help them

with their homework called “Library Skills for Students Workshop” at 2

4-H for all

The Fountain Valley Cloverdales 4-H Club is offering projects for boys

and girls in fourth through 12th grades including “Clowning and Magic,”

nature hikes, sewing, needle craft and scrapbook making. For information,

Give kids a brake

The Huntington Beach Police Department’s traffic bureau is urging drivers

who are moving in either direction to stop before passing a school bus

when its lights are flashing. If a center divider divides the roadway,

cars going the opposite direction do not need to stop. The police

department’s Critical Accident Suppression and Enforcement Team will be

monitoring the school bus stops.

Get it together

The Huntington Beach Adult School is offering a seminar on how to get

organized from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at 16666 Tunstall Lane.

What friends are for

The Orange County Regional Cancer Center is offering a “Friends Like Me”

peer group at the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital for 6- to 12-year-old

children who have been diagnosed with cancer. The group will provide

education and support through use of demonstrations, field trips, group
