Costa Mesa splits

NEWPORT BEACH - Costa Mesa High’s boys water polo team capped off a

busy weekend in the South Coast Tournament at Newport Harbor Saturday by

defeating Esperanza and losing to Santa Barbara.

Costa Mesa beat Esperanza 9-6 as Mike Vaillancourt scored six times to

lead the Mustangs. Their run finally ended to Santa Barbara in a 13-5

loss. Mike Whitman had three goals in the effort.
