NEWPORT COAST - Big Canyon Country Club members Gavin Herbert and

Ron Lane will be honored today at the inaugural USC Keck School of

Medicine Golf Classic at Pelican Hill Golf Club.

Herbert and Lane, both on the USC Board of Trustees, are launching the

event to raise funds for the school. Organizers are hopeful the

tournament can generate enough profits to provide six or seven full

scholarships to the school.

Former USC athletes, including quarterback Paul McDonald (Cleveland

Browns and Dallas Cowboys), are expected to be a part of today’s event,

which begins with an 11 a.m. tee time. Entry fees are $500 per player.

Lane is chairman of the Newport Beach-based development firm Lane/Kuhn

Pacific, Inc., and is a member of the founding Board of Directors of the

Pacific Club. He served as commissioner of Olympic Baseball at the 1984

Los Angeles Games. Lane played baseball at USC.

Herbert, founder and chairman emeritus of Allergan, Inc., the

Irvine-based pharmaceutical company, serves on the board of directors of

Research to Prevent Blindness, the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace

Foundation, Doheney Eye Institute and Beckman Coulter.

In its 112-year history, the USC School of Medicine has graduated more

than 5,800 physicians, 75% of whom practice in Southern California.

“We look forward to a successful event and the first of many,” golf

tournament chairman Paul Bartelt said. Details: (714) 557-5100, ext. 15.
