Football: Pee Wee Seahawks blank Garden Grove, 13-0

The Newport-Mesa Junior All-American Football Pee Wee Seahawks

blanked the Garden Grove Panthers, 13-0, Saturday.

Marc Quarles had over 160 yards rushing with two touchdowns along with

other offensive support from Nathan Stoneman, Phillip Di Giacomo, Ryan

Dalton, Pat Hill and Josh Miller.

The defense was solid with the play of Glenn Smith, Chase Whitaker,

Kevin Alison, Ryan Breslin and James Grey.

Ben Maggard keyed the defense with an interception late in the third

quarter for the Seahawks.

Anthony Santos and Brent Ogden led the team in tackles while Shawn

Mohler and Tyler Ellis dominated the line of scrimmage.

In other NMJAAF action:

The Clinic level Seahawks came back strong this week with a 13-7

victory over Garden Grove.

After falling behind, 7-0, the Seahawks came back to tie the game on a

long touchdown run by Jacob Gildart, with key blocks thrown by Frankie

Russo and William O’Brien.

The Seahawks defense tightened up with solid play turned in by Michael

Jugan, Griffin Taylor, Taylor Sepulveda and Kevin and Erik Rask.

With solid blocking by Jonathan Tripi, Corbin McNutt and Garrett

Amoroso, Robbie Lusk scored in the second half to give the Seahawks the

lead for good.

The Junior Pee Wee Seahawks lost to Fountain Valley, 21-7, but did

have some outstanding performances.

With P.J. Banning and Johnny Gothard pressuring the Jaguar

quarterback, Matt Hauser intercepted a pass on the 5-yard-line and

scampered 95 yards for the touchdown.

Ryan Telles, Tony Jones Mike Orozco, John Angelo, Richie Sorenson,

Nick Armendariz, Zack Sepulveda and Samy Nalm made key defensive plays

all afternoon.

Trent Sharp, Chaz Vickery, Kyle Hayhoe, Brian Lawler and Bryce Jardine

were solid on the offensive line, allowing quarterbacks Jake Wuebben and

Hauser to complete several passes.

Their favorite targets included Banning, Orozco, Conner Ferguson and

David Root.

Along with running backs Matt Loyd and Angelo, the Seahawks compiled

nearly 200 yards of total offense.

For the Midget Seahawks, Jun Azurin scored four touchdowns, but it was

not enough as the Seahawks fell to Garden Grove, 36-32.

Luis Gudino ran a fumble back for a touchdown for the Seahawks, caused

by a quarterback sack by Joevanny Cueva.

Brian Campos had two extra-point kicks and Travis Winrow had a pass

interception for the Seahawks.

The offense and defense was led by Matt Encinias, Brian Wase, Bo

Burgess, Cole Edwards, Sam Martin, J.R. Crosby, Luis Gonzalez, Sylvester

Langrine, R.J. Martin, Jonathan McClain, Alan Pineda, Omar Ruiz, Michael

Puentes, Chris Wade and Zach Wishengrad.
