CHICAGO - Newport Harbor High’s girls volleyball team won with room

to spare Friday in pool play of the Nike Challenge at Mother McAuley

High, putting away Wisconsin’s Divine Savior Holy Angels, 15-7, 15-11,

and Assisi Academy of Illinois, 15-6, 15-11.

Paving the way in the opener for Dan Glenn’s unbeaten Sailors were

April Ross (eight kills), Taylor Govaars (five kills) and Brenda Waterman

(four kills).

Waterman had six kills in the victory over Mt. Assisi, with Krista

Dill contributing four kills and Andrea Schutz delivering three ace

serves.

Harbor, ranked No. 1 in California, meets Downers Grove South of

Chicago today at 10:15 a.m.. The semifinals and finals are 12:45 and 5

p.m.
