FRIDAY’S GAMES

Arcadia vs. Edison Edison by 9

(at Huntington Beach High, 7 p.m.)

Trabuco Hills vs. Fountain Valley FV by 8

(at Westminster High, 7 p.m.)

Marina vs. Mission Viejo Marina by 2

(at Mission Viejo High, 7 p.m.)

Ocean View vs. Troy OV by 6

(at Fullerton High, 7 p.m.)

Huntington Beach at Dana Hills DH by 4

(at Dana Hills High, 7:30 p.m.)

And here’s why...

It’s homecoming at Edison High, and the Charger football team

won’t want to spoil the celebration. With Darryl Poston in the backfield,

a defensive unit that is coming off a big game, and the thought of paying

back the Apaches for last year’s loss, Edison should end its nonleague

schedule unbeaten. Last year: Arcadia, 35-14...

With its awakened offense and a defense that has played well all

season, Fountain Valley High also should get payback against Trabuco

Hills, even without Nedal Abdelmuti in the backfield. Last year: Trabuco

Hills, 24-7...

In what could well be another high-scoring affair between the

teams, Marina High will be running into a tough Mission Viejo squad

hungry for victory. If the Vikings can control the clock with an

efficient ground game, then they’ll return home with a victory. If not,

then Diablos Coach Bob Johnson collects victory No. 1 at Mission Viejo.

Last year: Marina, 35-34...

All that stands in the way of Ocean View High and an unbeaten

nonleague season is Troy High, which has won two-straight. The Warriors

have given up just one score (TD) in the last two weeks, but a

high-octane Seahawk offense comes in with a 44-points per game average.

Good thing, because Troy has averaged 21 points per outing. Last year:

Troy, 19-14...

Which Dana Hills team will show up against Huntington Beach High?

The one that thrashed mighty Santa Margarita? Or the one that scored only

five points against Cypress? If it’s the latter, then the Oilers will win

this meeting, which has the makings of another defensive battle. Last

year: Huntington Beach, 7-6.
