Balboa Island resident Barbara Lilly, known for keeping a bowl of

water in front of her home for dogs, died of cancer Sept. 30. She was 76.

Doctors diagnosed Lilly with cancer in June and family members said

she fought bravely until the end. Born April 19, 1923, in St. Paul,

Minn., Lilly had resided in Newport Beach since 1958.

Lilly was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at the University of

Minnesota in the 1940s and later married one of the founders of the Bahia

Corinthian Yacht Club, Len Lilly.

Lilly was active in the Bayshores Philharmonic, the Panhellenic

Council and Hoag Hospital Auxiliary. She worked for the Pacific Life

Insurance Co. before retiring in 1988.

Lilly is survived by her three children, Barbi Tesch of Kuwait, Bill

Lilly of Newport Beach, and Haidee Grice of Redondo Beach; a sister,

Sarah Parker, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life with family and friends will take place at

noon Saturday on Balboa Island.

In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to the Cystic

Fibrosis Foundation, 2150 Towne Centre, Suite 120, Anaheim 92801.
