MILLENNIUM MOMENT

It’s no surprise that Newport Beach has produced some fine sailors,

but David Ullman’s record in the sport’s history is more prominent than

most. Ullman was a four-time international high-point medalist in the 470

sailing class and took the world title in the snipe fleet in 1973.

Ullman was the champion of several other fleets, including Sabots,

Snipes and Lido 14s. The Yacht Racing and Cruising magazine named him

outstanding one-design sailor of the year for 1980, and he was also named

‘Champion of Champions’ in a worldwide contest of one-design experts.
