The Daily Pilot dropped by Costa Mesa High School at lunchtime Friday to

ask students who they thought should be the next U.S. president.

Here’s what they had to say:

Josh Stern, 14, freshman, Costa Mesa, favorite movie seen in the last

three months: “The Matrix”

“George W. Bush, because my family is Republican and we talk about the

presidential campaign sometimes. The next president should not lie like

Bill Clinton. The whole thing with Monica Lewinsky was funny. There were

lots of jokes about it on the Internet.”

Jonathan Contreras, 16, junior, Costa Mesa, favorite movie: “The Matrix”

“Warren Beatty. I guess because people like him. We were talking about

him today in our history class. Economics is very important. I have some

family in Mexico, and the economic situation isn’t good. Life in Mexico

is really tough. A lot of people wonder why we immigrate over here. It’s

because we want a better life for ourselves. If a new president comes in

and drops the value of the dollar, it will affect me and my family in

Mexico.”

Laura Orozco, 14, freshman, Costa Mesa, favorite movie: “The Sixth Sense”

“I think it should be a woman because women should be given a chance. It

would make me feel like I could do great things one day.”

Nicole Aylward, 14, freshman, Costa Mesa, favorite movie: “Austin Powers:

The Spy who Shagged Me”

“Me. Just kidding. Al Gore is too old. He’ll die halfway through his

presidency.”

Sean McGuire, 13, eighth-grader, Costa Mesa, favorite movie: “The Sixth

Sense”

“That one chick on ‘The View’ with the brown hair because she has a lot

of good ideas. I would vote for a woman for president. The only

difference between guys and girls is eating habits. Guys eat a lot of

junk food, and girls eat vegetables and fruit.”

Martha Baltazar, 13, eighth-grader, reporter for school newspaper, Costa

Mesa, favorite movie: “Deep Blue Sea”

“Ricky Martin, because I think we need more Latino influence in powerful

positions. And it has nothing to do with how he looks or dances.”
