Newport Beach resident Janet Fryer, the president of the Arthritis

Foundation Women’s Auxiliary, has been appointed to the new advisory

board of the foundation ... Karen Kendall, principal of Harbor View

Elementary School, had praise this week for Donna Gingold, who

coordinated Friday night’s Harbor View Hoe Down Party, an effort that

involved getting a life-size cow model prepared, and a pig model to keep

the cow company ... Orange Coast College has announced the newest

inductees to its hall of fame. Among the names is Newport Harbor High

School graduate Dr. Iris Engstrand, who is now a distinguished professor

at the University of San Diego ... Kathy Nasca is pleased about the

special day class program her son is participating in at Corona del Mar

High School. Teacher Suzan Thatcher is helping her students work on a

farming and gardening project, and encouraging them to write letters to

local merchants to get donated supplies. “She’s done a tremendous job

with those kids,” Nasca said.
