MILLENNIUM MOMENT
As pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on the Balboa
Peninsula, and, before that, St. Joachim of Costa Mesa, the Rev. Kenneth
Krause was a crucial figure in creating connections between our Latino
and English-speaking communities.
At a time when the Latino population was rapidly growing in Costa Mesa,
he conducted church affairs with a blend of imperfect Spanish and sincere
openness, hoping to bring the two cultures of his parishioners closer
together. Krause believed that ties between communities could be forged
through children and worked to create a youth ministry at St. Joachim.
He passed away earlier this year.
* MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who made a major contribution
to the Newport-Mesa community during this century.
