Accident leaves pedestrian near death

COSTA MESA -- A 47-year-old Huntington Beach man remains in grave

condition after he was struck by a slow-moving car Tuesday morning while

he was crossing a street.

Daniel Marr suffered major head injuries after hitting his head on the

concrete as a result of the accident. The driver of the vehicle,

40-year-old Steven Timothy Edgar of Hesperia, may face vehicular

manslaughter charges pending a police investigation.

The accident occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of

Park Center and Town Center drives. Marr, who works nearby, was walking

northbound in a crosswalk on Town Center when Edgar, driving a 1996 Ford

Thunderbird, made a left turn from a southbound lane on Park Center.

Authorities said Edgar made a stop at the intersection before he hit the

victim. Police suspect Edgar didn’t see the pedestrian walking across the

street.

It was estimated Edgar was traveling between 3 to 5 mph at the time of

impact.

“The serious injuries were suffered by the way he fell,” said Costa Mesa

police Sgt. Kevin Lovelady. “He rolled over the hood and hit his head on

the asphalt.”

Marr was rushed to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he remains

in critical condition.
