AYSO Region 97: Bullets bedevil Beach Boys

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Beach Bullets came from behind to

defeat the Beach Boys, 3-2, in AYSO Region 97 Division 4 action.

Patrick Murphy scored on a nice pass from Jason Segura for the

game-winning goal with less than a minute remaining in the fourth

quarter.

Jonathan Mena scored the Bullets’ first two goals of the game, each to

tie the score. Tyler Parker assisted on Mena’s second goal.

Christopher Vu scored two goals for the Beach Boys, with an assist

from Weston Dunlap.

Bullets Coach Nora Etter was pleased with the solid play of the entire

team, including Chasen Murphy, Ryan Ramming, Dillon Giedt, Justin

Whisler, Andrew Marchi, Kyle Williams, Luke Sequeira, Kevin Etter, Brian

Cunningham and Bradley Branch.

In other Division 4 action:

Shockwave 3, Blue Vipers 1: Peter Hapke scored the lone goal to lead

the Blue Vipers.

Team defense was turned in by Santiago Castaneda, Jason Vittman, Drew

Wittenberg.

Forwards Wes Parks, Henry Pyle, Marcos Castaneda and Mark Espinoza

sparked the offense, while the midfield was handled by Max Royer and

Darren Leggett.

In Boys Division 5 action:

Tsunamis 5, Blue Devils 2: R.J. D’Cruz scored two goals, while Ceasar

Amador, Kyle Caldwell and Cameron Chase each added a goal for the

Tsunamis.

Assists came from Hayden Navarro, Michael Bingham, Erik Bonn, Eric

Holland and Cameron Holmes.

Goalie Danny Miller held the opposition scoreless in the first half,

while Rex Nelson, Mitchel Bancroft and Stephen Reader played effective

defense for the Tsunamis.

In Division 6 and 7 action:

In the Boomslangs matchup against the All-Stars, goalies Jackson

Carmack and Randall stopped numerous shots, with effective defense turned

in by Andrew Brown, Dom Palmer, Justin Cerratto and Kevin Wittenberg.

Sean Davis, Will Connelly and Max Collins led the Boomslangs’

offensive attack.

In girls action, the Teenie Wahines, led by the offensive spark of

Saydo Busby, Jessica Swift, Jordan Murrell and Cassie D’Cruz.

In goal, Blakely Ficenic and Ashley Svendsen stopped all shots that

came their way, while Lindsay Anderson and Kimberly Ficenic anchored the

defense.
