Lightning defeats Long Beach

Shauna Brown scored two goals Saturday to lead the Huntington Beach

Lightning girls Under-14 soccer team of Region 143

(Westminster/Huntington Beach) to a 3-1 victory over Long Beach (Region

114) in AYSO action.

Nina Kratter added another goal as the Lightning improved their

record to 3-0-1.

Jessica Abdou, Megan Bell, Tara Fox, Aubrie Fuette, Victoria

Heglar, Caitlin McGinnis, Ann-Mari Osgood, Janet Peterson, Hilary

Pohlman, Lindsey Rodgers, and Lauren Stimmler also contributed to the

Huntington Beach victory.

HB Extreme 4, Region 55 0

Zashya Nitzkowski’s two goals were sandwiched between scores by

Melissa Burnett and Emily Tims as the Extreme blanked their Huntington

Beach rival out of Region 55. Both Danielle Medina and Megan Klucken

anchored the Extreme defense, and goalkeepers Leticia Ramirez and Kelsey

Bruder teamed for the shutout. Carolanne Coolidge, Victoria Cott, Kassi

Hewin, Cecilia Hudson, Tiffany Laffen, Caroline O’Neill, and Danielle

Walker also turned in strong play for the Extreme.

Joe McGarry’s shot on goal deflected off a Predator defender and

into the net for a 1-0 Poison lead, but the Predators responded by

recovering a late fumble in front of the Poison goal, which they turned

into the match-tying score.
