Green Chargers can’t hold on to lead
The Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Green Chargers jumped out to a
quick two-touchdown lead on Yorba Linda Saturday but couldn’t sustain
that momentum and ended up on the short end of a 34-14 loss to the
visiting Warriors in Pop Warner Football action at Edison High.
Sean Corcoran came up with a fumble recovery on the first play
from scrimmage, which set up a touchdown run by Eugene Starikov.
The other Green Charger score was an 80-yard burst by Josh
Herrera, which gave Huntington Beach a 14-0 advantage through the first
quarter of play.
The two touchdowns were the first points scored on unbeaten Yorba
Linda this season.
Tim Doupe turned in an interception and other outstanding play for
the Green Chargers came from Christopher Maki, Robert McCarty, Justin
Kyle, and Jay Petros.
Huntington Beach will attempt to bounce back from its second loss
of the season Saturday when the Green Chargers host the Bell Gardens
Lancers in a 1 p.m. kickoff at Edison High.
