Clinic Dolphins blank Fountain Valley, 26-0

Dhane Stephenson’s kick return for a touchdown at the outset of the

second half of Saturday’s Clinic Division showdown broke open a scoreless

halftime tie and sent the Huntington Beach Dolphins on their way to a

26-0 victory over the Fountain Valley Black Jaguars.

Dan Sumner rushed for one touchdown and also returned an

interception for another score as the Dolphins ran their season mark to

5-0.

The defensive play of Cameron Meredith, Matt Garza, and Mickey

Moses held the Black Jaguars scoreless.

It was the fourth shutout of the season for Huntington Beach’s

dominating defensive unit and in five games, the Dolphins have outscored

their opponents, 133-6.

Huntington Beach will host the Fountain Valley Teal Jaguars

Saturday (1 p.m.) at Ocean View High.

The Huntington Beach Pee Wee Dolphins had their rushing game and

three-game win streak shut down by the South Orange County Patriots, who

scored a 47-0 Junior All-American Football victory Saturday at Ocean View

High.

The defending Superbowl champion Patriots, who improved to 5-0

overall, took advantage of eight Huntington Beach turnovers to win going

away.

In spite of fumble recoveries by both Antonio Small and Daniel

Nelson, and inspired efforts by Willie Fiscus III and Shane Keating, the

Dolphins could not get their offense in gear.

South Orange County smothered Huntington Beach’s running game, and

limited the Dolphins’ top rusher, Logan Martina, to just 22 yards.

The loss ended a three-game win streak for the Dolphins, who fell

to 3-2.

‘Normally you try to look for the positive in a situation like

this, and we will take this defeat and use it to build our character,

however, there wan nothing positive about our play,’ Huntington Beach

Coach Dave Small said. ‘A 47-0 score is not indicative of the type of

team we are. We have a great group of boys on our team and they

understand what they are capable of doing. Right now, we need to work

hard and get ready for our next game.’

That next game is set for Saturday (11 a.m.) against the host

Garden Grove Panthers at Rancho Alamitos High.
