Softball: Riptide Splash split weekend twinbill
NEWPORT BEACH - The Riptide Splash, Pacific Coast Bobby Sox
Girls-under-10 fastpitch travel softball team split a doubleheader last
weekend against West Fullerton.
After losing the first game, 3-2, the Riptide Splash pounded West
Fullerton, 13-0, in game two.
Coral Young was the winning pitcher in game two, allowing only one
hit, while striking out 11.
Robin Gautschi, Michelle Tolfa and Kristin Ciralli each had key
extra-base hits, while second baseman Clea O’Kieffe and shortstop Amber
Vitalo led the defense up the middle of the infield.
The Riptide Splash will take on Tustin South to determine first place
at mid-season, Sunday at Bonita Creek Park. Game times are at noon and 2
p.m.
In other Pacific Coast Bobby Sox action:
The Riptide Teal, Girls-under 12 fastpitch softball team knocked off
the Central Orange Panthers in a doubleheader sweep, 10-4 and 11-0,
ending a six-game losing streak for the Teal.
Multiple-hit games were recorded by Alex Shitanishi and Ashley
Gleason, while pitchers Ronni Briggs and Gleason kept the Panthers
hitters off balance.
The Teal will also be playing at Bonita Creek Park Sunday at noon and
2 p.m. on Sunday.
