MILLENNIUM MOMENT

Balboa Peninsula had history and charm, but it was in decline. Then

revitalization dynamo Dayna Pettit came along, catalyzing efforts to

overcome stagnation in the early 1990s. She helped to create a Business

Improvement District to get the area economics back on track.

Not content with tending to the dollars and cents, she worked to see

flowers placed in street planters, overgrown trees cut back and sidewalks

widened, making the area a safer, more walkable and friendly place to be.

Pettit, who also formed the Balboa Merchants and Owners Association, has

played an important role in coordinating the restoration of the Balboa

Theater, as well.

MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who have made a major

contribution to the Newport-Mesa community during this century.
