Sailors sweep Wolverines

ALISO VIEJO - The Newport Harbor High girls volleyball team closed

out the first round of Sea View League competition with a 15-6, 15-13,

15-4 trouncing of host Aliso Niguel Tuesday.

Senior Brenda Waterman and junior Heather Cullen had seven kills apiece

for the winners (18-2, 4-0 in league and ranked No. 2 in Orange County),

who also got six kills from senior Krista Dill.

The Sailors visit second-place Irvine Thursday at 3:15 p.m. and a victory

would all but assure Coach Dan Glenn’s Sailors their seventh straight

league championship.

“We’re basically playing for the league title,” said Glenn, whose team

topped the Vaqueros, 15-13, 16-14, 15-13, in their first meeting, Oct. 5.
