Nolan wins nice birthday gift
Asher Nolan received a big birthday bonus Sunday, winning
first-place in the Pro/Am Division at last weekend’s Huntington Beach
Surf Series contest held at Goldenwest St.
Nolan gave a clean, sharp, and polished performance in 3-5 foot
waves under sunny skies and defeated a field that included runner-up Cory
Whitlock, third-place Mark Moreno, and fourth-place Mike Hoisington.
For his efforts, Nolan claimed the Pro/Am top prize of $7000.
Edison High sophomore Chad Andino beat back a competitive field to
win the Boys Division event.
Other divisional winners included Todd Hutton (Juniors), Jenner
Heller (Mens), Scott Banuelos (Masters), Liz Kampen (Womens), and Rocky
McKinnen (LongBoard).
The final event of the Huntington Beach Pro/Am Surf Series is
scheduled for Nov. 13-14 at the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier.
In other surfing action, Edison High team captain Tim Reyes, a
senior, won the Open Division - the top amateur division - at the recent
National Scholastic Surf Association contest held at the pier.
“I’m very excited for both Tim and Chad (Andino),” Edison Coach
Zoran Forgiarini said. “It’s a good start to the season for both of these
guys.”
