Jr. Pee Wee Dolphins get back on winning track, 41-6

The Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Division Dolphins bounced back

from last week’s loss to the undefeated South Orange County Patriots and

kept their playoff hopes alive by defeating the Garden Grove Panthers,

41-6, in Junior All-American Football action.

Logan Martina scored four rushing touchdowns, his longest a

61-yard gallop for the game’s first score, and the Dolphin defense scored

once and set up two other scores as Huntington Beach took over sole

possession of third-place in the AFL-Pacific League.

Brian Shrock returned the first of his two first quarter

interceptions 62 yards for the Dolphins’ second touchdown, and his

second, which came on Garden Grove’s ensuing series, set up Martina’s

13-yard touchdown run. Ceseare Nieto’s point after run gave Huntington

Beach a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, a Nick Schoenmann fumble recovery set up

the Dolphins’ next score, and Shrock’s 40-yard bomb to Charlie Pickle led

to Martina’s fourth touchdown of the half, which put Huntington Beach on

top, 28-0, at the intermission.

Schoenmann recovered two fumbles and had two sacks for loss in his

first four-quarter performance of the season, Shane Keating recorded

three tackles for loss to foil three different trick plays by the

Panthers, and Victor Ordonez had two tackles for loss to go along with

two sacks.

“Nick is one of our outstanding students, which is illustrated by

the fact that he could be seen studying while riding with his dad to the

game,” Huntington Beach Coach Dave Small said. “You have to smile when a

young man is squeezing in his studies every chance he gets.”

The Dolphins, who host the Fountain Valley Jaguars Saturday (9

a.m.) at Ocean View High, amassed 380 yards of offense (327 on the

ground) behind the key blocking of Bobby Duarte, Johnathan Paje, and

Sonny Vo.

Matt Garza scored four touchdowns and the Huntington Beach

Dolphins amassed more than 400 yards of offense in running their record

to 6-0.

The Clinic Dolphin defense continued its dominating performance

this season as it limited Fountain Valley to minus-12 yards of offense.

The shutout was the fifth of the season by the Clinic Dolphin

defense, which also recovered six onside kicks Saturday.

Huntington Beach will put its unbeaten mark on the line Saturday

when it travels to Mission Viejo to battle the Cowboys in an 11 a.m.

start.
