have given the Griffins fits in their last two visits to Sheue Field: in

1995, Los Alamitos overcame a 20-0 halftime deficit to pull out a

dramatic victory and two years ago, kicked a field goal in the closing

seconds to foil the Chargers again...

What Could Have Been: Mietkiewicz and Fifita were teammates as

freshman at Marina before Fifita transferred to Fountain Valley. The

freshmen Vikings that year went unbeaten at 10-0...

Respect: It was mentioned on this page here last week that the

other four Sunset League teams were trying this season to break the

stranglehold that both Los Alamitos and Esperanza have held on the league

title since the two schools joined the Sunset. Well, back on the final

weekend of the 1996 regular season, Fountain Valley High was the first

local team to upend either, beating host Esperanzam 29-22, to earn a

share of the championship with both the Aztecs and Los Alamitos. The

Griffins then proceeded to win a coin flip to determine the league’s top

entry in the Division I playoffs. Sorry about the oversight, Baron
