COSTA MESA - Daylyn Kelly had 12 kills to lead visiting Costa Mesa

High over rival Estancia, 15-8, 15-1, 15-4, Thursday in Pacific Coast

League girls volleyball action.

For Eagles coach Luis Carlotta, his team is in the learning phase to

success and according to the first-year skipper, it’s a day-by-day

process.

“It’s all new to them,” Carlotta said of his system. “It’s taking a

while for them to adapt to my style of coaching, but they’re getting

there. I think we’re going in the right direction. It won’t be done

overnight.”

Lauren Cassity had six kills and Helen Flores had nine assists for the

Eagles (2-9, 0-5).

After both teams traded points early, Costa Mesa (5-6, 2-3), managed

to take command of game one to win, 15-8.

“We’ve been working on some new defensive switches, but we still

haven’t quite adapted to it,” Carlotta said.

The Mustangs managed to take advantage to Eagles’ mistakes to control

game two from the get-go, winning, 15-1.

Not giving up, the Eagles managed to jump out to a 4-0 lead, but

couldn’t hold the momentum as the Mustangs rallied to win.

“Our group has been getting a lot of compliments from the other teams

that we’ve been playing and even though we haven’t won in league, I’m

proud of our girls and the direction we’re heading,” Carlotta said.

Next up, Costa Mesa and Estancia will take their shows on the road.

For the Mustangs, they take on University, while the Eagles go up

against Laguna Beach.

Both matches are Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
