We have Tiffany Prugpichailers, a Fulton Middle School eighth-grader who

is the county’s top Pentathlon student.

We have 17-year-old Kathryn Jones from Marina High School, who makes

blankets for the kids at Orangewood Children’s Home and has been a

Huntington Beach Library volunteer for the past four years.

We have Valerie Marini, a fourth-grader at Tamura Elementary who is on

the student council, plays soccer and baseball, and sings and dances --

and continued her activities and studies while her mother, June, battled

a life-threatening illness.

Our community is full of spectacular kids. From this week’s list, that’s

plain to see. And our Junior Kahunas list is just a sampling. There are

many more youths out there who are just as deserving of praise.

Judging by these children, our future looks very bright.

Our students are involved. They are volunteers. They are teachers. They

are coaches.

And they are smart.

We have many students who achieve a perfect grade point average.

Our students are healthy. From soccer to baseball to basketball, our kids

continue to excel in sports as well as in the classroom.

Our students are versatile. They are musicians. They are actors. They are

scientists.

Each of the students we featured has a story to make us proud.

Collectively, they are a story with an ending that will be remarkable.

Congratulations, 1999 Junior Kahunas. And thank you. Our future clearly

is in capable hands.
