Edison boys claim dual meet title

The Edison High boys cross country team, which has gone unbeaten in

league dual meets the past two years, will be looking to wrap up its

second consecutive Sunset League championship when league finals are held

Saturday at Huntington Beach Central Park.

The Chargers come into league finals with an impressive showing at

last Saturday’s Mt. San Antonio College Invitational Cross-Country Meet

in Walnut.

Edison finished in 15th-place in the team sweepstakes race. Junior

Scott Brandos finished with the top time among county runners at the

meet, finishing with a 15:29.20, which was good for 10th place overall.

Brandos’ time was the second fastest in school history, according

to Coach Mike Munoz, and it also is the top mark among county runners

this season.

Junior Kevin McCarter ran a 16.01 and knocked off 35 seconds from

his previous best run.

Edison, which is currently ranked fourth in the latest county

sportswriters poll, figures to receive its stiffest challenge from

sixth-rated Esperanza at league finals.

The Chargers need to defeat the Aztecs by just a single point to

wrap up consecutive league titles.

‘The boys ran a great race at Mt. SAC, and I’m looking forward to

what should be a real exciting league final,’ Edison Coach Mike Munoz

said.

The varsity boys race should commence between 11-12 p.m., Munoz said.
