High’s Deshai Houston is closing in on becoming the school’s all-time

leader in total yardage...

Already, the speedy senior has compiled 1,900 yards in seven

total yardage mark of 1,300...

Now that Ocean View has completed a grueling five-week road trip

with a sparkling 4-1 record, the Seahawks return home Friday to take on

Westminster in a key Golden West League showdown. The game is listed as

an Ocean View home game, but Westminster High’s Bill Boswell Field really

is the home of the designated visiting Lions...

Ocean View might be without the services of its top receiver,

sophomore Patrick Campbell, who suffered a hyper-extended elbow after

being tackled out of bounds on a late kickoff return last week against

Santa Ana. Campbell is one of the county’s top receivers with a 13.3

average per catch...

With one more victory in its final three regular season games,

Ocean View will have tied the school record for most wins (seven) in a

The 1989 Seahawks have the school’s best single-season record,

7-4...

Marina, now 2-0 in Sunset League play following stirring upsets of

Westminster in the fourth week of the season...

Huntington Beach will celebrate homecoming Friday at Sheue Field.

The school’s first graduating class is listed as 1907, but the first

yearbook...

To the winner of the annual Marina-Huntington Beach game goes the

past three years...

Both Huntington Beach and Marina come into Friday’s neighborhood

brawl relatively injury free, although Oiler Coach Tony Ciarelli said

that starting linebacker Barry Nerhus is questionable for the Vikings.

The senior suffered a leg injury last week against Esperanza...

Injuries are beginning to take their toll on the Edison High

defense: already lost for the remainder of the season are nose guard

David McCord (broken left ankle) and defensive end Kyle McCarter (back).

In addition, defensive end Dustin Brown also has suffered a neck injury.

Both the McCarter and Brown injuries came two weeks ago in the Marina

game...

Edison will be fighting for its postseason life tonight at

Esperanza. In five previous Sunset League meetings with the Aztecs, the

Chargers are 0-5...

One of last year’s most exciting games featured Los Alamitos and

Fountain Valley. The Griffins held on for a 24-23 victory in a showdown

that was not decided until the final gun went off. The teams renew their

rivalry tonight at Long Beach’s Veterans Stadium.
