And here’s why...

Edison High has showed all season long that it is capable of

lighting up a scoreboard, evident by its 32 points per game average.

Esperanza, which is better defensively than on offense this year, could

have its hands full with a hungry Charger bunch looking for their first

league win. If Edison’s offense is in high gear, and the defense comes

through with a big road performance, then the Chargers could very well

have their first-ever league win over the Aztecs. Last year: Esperanza,

52-35...

Los Alamitos was considered the team to beat before the league

season began, and the Griffins find themselves in their customary spot -

first-place - heading into their encounter with Fountain Valley. The

Barons were without two key players in last week’s loss to Marina, and

the return of Nedal Abdelmuti and Steven Fifita to the line-up would be a

major boost to Fountain Valley’s chances. The Barons field a strong

defensive unit, but it will be severely tested by a Griffin rushing

attack featuring senior workhorse Damon Johnson. Last year: Los Alamitos,

24-23...

Outside of Los Alamitos, Marina is the hottest team in the Sunset

League. A strong option game, combined with a defense that is improving

weekly, makes for a dangerous Viking team. Huntington Beach, however,

will counter with a defense that has yielded just 16 points per game. But

in order for the Oilers to emerge with their first league victory,

they’ll have to score more than the three points they’ve averaged in

their first two league outings. Last year: Huntington Beach, 34-13...

Ocean View will try to make it 3-0 in Golden West League play

against a Westminster team that can be dangerous, in spite of its 3-4

record. The key to this outcome will be the play of the Seahawk defense,

which rebounded to play well in last week’s win over Santa Ana after

having given up 115 points in its previous two games. This one, however,

could turn into another track meet. Last year: Westminster, 27-6.
