MILLENNIUM MOMENT

Forgotten bits of California history were like nuggets of gold to Balboa

Island’s Horace Parker, who started the Paisano Press to bring pieces of

area heritage to the light of day.

The Press published obscure works from the early California era,

including tales of frontier hoodlums and adventures among the native

Americans who lived in the area.

Parker was a member of the Desert Protective Council. He had a veterinary

practice in Costa Mesa and was one of the first members of OCC’s board of

trustees. He served on the college foundation’s advisory board until his

death in 1977.

* MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who have made a major

contribution to the Newport-Mesa community during this century.
