OCC wins third OEC championship

ORANGE - Orange Coast College’s womens cross country team won its

third consecutive Orange Empire Conference title on Saturday at Irvine

Park.

The Pirates easily outdistanced second-place Santa Ana 25-50. OCC’s Zoila

Gomez, Berenice Carbajal and Heather Shurtleff took the top three spots

in the race. Sinfo Orozco and Elsa Ortega passed numerous runners late to

earn crucial points for OCC. Ortega finished seventh, and Orozco, who was

hampered by an injury, finished 12th.

OCC will next compete in the Southern California Regional meet on Friday,

in Bakersfield.
