Women’s golf: Pirates repeat as OEC champs
CHINO HILLS - Orange Coast College women’s golf team successfully
defended its Orange Empire Conference championship with a three-stroke
win over Saddleback at Los Serranos Golf Course’s North Course, par 74.
The Pirates are now unbeaten in OEC play for two years in a row.
OCC shot a 365 and was trailing the Gauchos by one stroke after day
one of the two-day event, before trimming 12 shots off its score in day
two for the win.
Robin Shaft was the only Pirates golfer to shoot in the 80s both days,
with an 87 and an 83.
To show consistency, OCC’s fivesome of Shaft, Jennifer Tunzi, Jan
Cheng, Jenna Quaranta and Kathy Hille all finished in the top 10 out of
the 25 golfers participating and no Pirates’ golfer shot over 100 for any
one day, the only school to do so.
OCC and Saddleback advance to the Southern California Regionals Sunday
and Monday at Menifee Lakes Country Club, beginning at 10 a.m.
Competing against the Pirates and Gauchos will be South Coast
Conference representatives Mt. San Antonio and Long Beach City colleges.
