The Huntington Beach Adult School will be offering a “Get Organized”

class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 16. “Clutterologist” Melinda

Lipinski will present strategies for organizing the home and holiday

clutter. The course is offered on the school’s campus, 16666 Tunstall

Lane. The school will also be offering a beginning, eight-week

calligraphy class, starting today from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Rodgers

Seniors’ Center in Huntington Beach. To register for classes, call (714)

Making a teen ‘connection’

Ocean View High School’s “Connection Program” is starting a support and

information-sharing group for grandparents who are raising a teenager.

Participants will meet on Tuesdays from 10-11:30 a.m. for six weeks

beginning Nov. 9.

The program was created by licensed marriage and family and child

therapists whom are experienced working with teenagers and their

families. The program will identify common concerns of such families and

concentrate on learning new listening and talking skills in order to

increase cooperation and problem solving with other grandparents raising

Water district, hotels team up

The Orange County Water District is leading a team of water agencies in

providing Orange County hotels and motels with free water conservation

cards.

The conservation cards provide the opportunity for hotel and motel guests

to use their sheets and towels more than once. If the guest leaves a card

on the bed, or hangs up towels, hotel staff will make up the room during

the guest’s stay using the same sheets and towels, saving water and

energy while cutting down on pollution from laundry detergents.

New medical center

Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center and physician Jamie B. Lewis, M.D.

have opened the newest Memorial Prompt Care & Family Medicine facility at

Five Points in Huntington Beach, 18561 Beach Blvd. Orange Coast Memorial

Medical Center is a nonprofit, 230-bed general acute care hospital that

offers a wide range of specialty services.

Short wave connection

The American Shortwave Listener’s club will hold its November meeting

from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 6, at 16182 Ballad Lane, Huntington Beach. The

Ornaments with a heart

Combest General Store, 7777 Edinger Avenue at Huntington Beach Mall, is

selling an ornament with a heart. “The First House That Love Built” from

Department 56 celebrates the 25th anniversary of Ronald McDonald Houses.

Proceeds from sales raises funds for Ronald McDonald Charities, said

Huntington Beach residents Jack and Cherie Combest, owners of the gift

and collectible retailer. Combest General Store will offer “The First

House That Love Built” ornament during their annual Department 56 holiday

open house program, beginning Nov. 5th, and continuing throughout the

holidays while supplies last. The store is open Monday through Friday, 9

a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Catellus teams with Junior Lifeguards

Catellus Residential Group has volunteered to help the city’s Junior

Lifeguards organization with its fund-raising program, including raising

money for the Lifeguard’s new beach-based headquarters. Catellus is the

planner and developer of the Summerlane community in Huntington Beach.

Singing in the shower

Huntington Beach residents Bob and Gail Quinn donated nearly $1,000 to

the Pacific Coast Civic Light Opera, based at Golden West College. The

Quinns, owners of Tile and Plumbing Gallery, hosted the Great American

Charity Shower Sing in August. The Quinns paid for the event fee, awards.

Shower construction costs and maintenance. Candace Gamboa, a 10-year-old

from Costa Mesa, won the $100 prize given by ACF, a water purification

company.

Firefighters honored

The Huntington Beach Fire Department recently received the Life Safety

Achievement Award for 1998 from the Residential Fire Safety Institute.

The award is given for prevention activities that reduce the number of

lives lost in residential fires. The fire department recorded zero fire

deaths in 1998.

Funny money

On Nov. 12th, the Huntington Harbour Republican Women Federated will hold

Fund Raising Follies -- honoring military veterans and the law

enforcement Community, at 7 p.m. at the Meadowlark Country Club in

Huntington Beach. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher will be a special guest. Master

of Ceremonies will be state Senate GOP Leader Ross Johnson. For more

Volunteers needed

The Fountain Valley Library is seeking adult volunteers to help at the

library on Sundays. Detail-oriented people are need to shelve books, fill

book requests and turn on computers and equipment every Sunday for two to

three hours during the next six to 12 months. For more information, call
