Youth soccer: Amebas outlast Slime
NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Beach Ameba soccer team defeated the
Newport Beach Slime in a penalty kick shootout, 4-3, Saturday in AYSO
Region 97 Boys 14 playoff action.
After falling behind, 2-0, on goals from Kurt Kidman and Zachary Sagay
of the Slime, the Amebas tied the score on goals from Brenden Zimmer and
Eduardo Garcia.
The Slime answered back on a goal from Partrick Riley to regain the
lead at 3-2.
Garcia tied the game with three minutes remaining on a penalty kick.
In the shootout, Ameba goalkeeper Kaiona Dutro stopped three out of
five shots, with Sagay and Riley scoring for the Slime.
For the Amebas, Mike Bury, Garcia and Eric Zepada scored, giving the
Amebas a 3-2 advantage and the shootout win. Next up for the Amebas in
the Newport Mod Squad Saturday at 11 a.m. at Harper School.
