the first round. Despite Charles Chatman’s 215 rushing yards, Costa Mesa

is upset by Norte Vista, 28-12. CdM loses to Villa Park, 43-21, with Josh

Walz scoring all three touchdowns for the Sea Kings.

CdM’s girls tennis team goes to the CIF Division I finals with a 12-6 win

over Dana Hills. CdM’s singles players of Nina Vaughan, Megan Wachtler

and Alissa Scott wins all nine of their sets.

Newport Harbor’s girls tennis team almost pulls off the great upset

against mighty Peninsula in Division I, but falls, 10-8. The doubles team

of Vanessa Godbey and Emily Barker sweeps for the Sailors.

CdM’s boys water polo team trounces Trabuco Hills in Division I playoffs,

16-7. Neil Hueston scores six times for the Sea Kings.

Costa Mesa’s boys water polo team is upset in Division II quarterfinals

by Marina, 11-5, despite four goals from Rob Grayeli.

Orange Coast College’s women’s basketball team opens the season by

swamping San Bernardino, 89-35. America Robledo leads the Pirates with 18

points and 12 rebounds, and Jamie Shine has 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Newport Harbor’s football team barely squeaks by John Glenn, 21-20 in CIF

Division IV playoffs, with a goal line stand in overtime on a two-point

conversion attempt the difference. Steve Scheck throws three touchdown

passes for the Sailors.

Estancia’s undefeated football season comes to an end in the Division VI

playoffs with a 15-12 loss to La Mirada in the opening round for the No.

1 seeded Eagles. Senior Josh Wojtkiewicz scores the lone Eagles’

touchdown.

Corona del Mar’s football team pounds Pacifica, 10-0, in Division VI

playoffs. CdM’s Brian Lucas rushes for 133 yards.

CdM’s girls volleyball team advances to the Division 4-A finals with an

8-15, 15-4, 5-15, 15-12, 15-7 victory over Santa Barbara City College.

Danielle Everett gets 25 kills and six aces and Prentice Perkins adds 37

assists for the Sea Kings.

CdM’s girls tennis team also advances to the Division 4-A finals with a

14-4 win over Estancia. Keri Phebus goes to 36-0 in singles play, and the

doubles team of Kristen Pollock and Jackie O’Leary sweep for CdM.

CdM’s boys water polo team moves on to the Division 4-A semifinals after

a 10-4 win over Long Beach Wilson. Ryan Weir’s three goals leads CdM.

Orange Coast College’s women’s soccer team clinches the South Coast

Conference championship with a 5-1 win over Bakersfield. Michelle

Forgette scores three times for the Pirates, with Erin Kanney getting

four assists.

OCC’s women’s volleyball team defeats Rancho Santiago 9-15, 15-6, 15-4,

15-8, behind the superb effort of Lisa Wisdom, who gets nine kills, four

blocks and five aces.

OCC’s women’s basketball team opens the season with a 71-34 blowout win against Chaffey.
