Orange Coast College culinary arts students captured nine medals Nov. 7

at the 32nd annual Orange Empire Chefs’ Culinary Arts Salon at the

Anaheim Hilton. Among the award winners were Jim Peters of Fountain

Valley, who earned the salon’s “Judges Award” for the second year in a

row, as well as a silver medal, for his poultry platter. Brian Crossin of

Huntington Beach garnered the “Best Apprentice Award,” as well as a

silver medal, for his five-plated entree platter with a Caribbean theme.

Seacliff book sale

Huntington Seacliff Elementary School, the first new school in Huntington

Beach in 25 years, is hosting a community-wide book fair through Friday.

The book fair will feature hundreds of titles from more than 100

publishers, including many winners of prestigious and national awards.

All books have been carefully selected by a committee of dedicated

editors and educators who hand-picked books that would motivate students

at all reading levels to become lifelong readers. The book fair will be

open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to give the entire community a chance to

peruse or purchase the latest works for young readers. Admission is free.

Proceeds will benefit new projects underway at Huntington Seacliff

Golden West art exhibition

Golden West College’s visual arts faculty is headlining the college’s art

gallery exhibition running through Dec. 17. The 18 faculty members will

show works in a variety of media including painting, drawing,

photography, ceramics and glass. The Huntington Beach College is open

Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Tuesday from 6 to 9
