It has been said that a tie is like kissing your sister, but in the

case of the Fountain Valley Jr. Midget Jaguar football team, it is like

kissing the league championship trophy.

The Jr. Midget Jaguars wrapped up the 1999 league title by fighting the

host Irvine Chargers to a 13-13 tie.

Fountain Valley scored first, with Bob Silva going off-tackle for a

15-yard touchdown run, and Kyle Feiler’s point after kick gave the

Jaguars a 7-0 lead midway through the opening period.

Irvine retaliated with a 55-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to

knot the score, but the Jaguars came up with the first of two defensive

plays of the game when Ray Andong intercepted a pass at the Fountain

Valley 10-yard line and ran it back 90 yards for a 13-7 lead.

The Chargers scored the tying touchdown with 58 seconds remaining in the

game, but on the extra point attempt, the Jaguar defense jumped offside.

On Irvine’s second attempt at the game-winning point, Bryan Reihm broke

through to block the conversion kick to preserve the tie and the

championship.

Reihm, Andong, Bob Silva, and Michael Musso were named defensive players

of the game for the Jaguars, while Reihm, Silva, and Feiler shared the

honors on offense.

Fountain Valley will take on the Corona Panthers Saturday (3 p.m.) in a

first-round playoff game at Corona High.

JR. PEE WEE DIVISION

Fountain Valley 27, Orange 6

Bryan Schutte rushed for 208 yards and four touchdowns on 32 carries as

the Black Jaguars overpowered the Chiefs in an AFL wild-card game. Eric

Ceja led the way with four solo tackles as the Black Jaguars limited the

Chiefs to just two first downs. Fountain Valley will take on the South

Orange County Patriots (9-0) at La Mirada Saturday in a first-round game,

with the winner advancing to the AFL championship game.

JR. CLINIC DIVISION

Fountain Valley 13, Mission Viejo 6

Steven Santana and Dylon Conley each rushed for touchdowns as the Jaguars

concluded their season on winning note. Santana, along with co-captains

Andy Palacios and Chris Martinez, combined for 21 tackles, two

interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Also contributing to the defense

was Scott Baily, Scott Rychlik, Cody Grant, and Chris Lanphere.
