License checkpoint yields 69 tickets
-- Greg Risling
A police checkpoint designed to deter motorists from driving without a
license snared 69 motorists Tuesday for auto-related violations.
Of the 1,651 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint at the
intersection of Victoria and Maple streets, 11 motorists were not
carrying a driver’s license; seven were driving on suspended licenses;
and 54 didn’t have either their registration or insurance papers handy.
The Costa Mesa Police Department spent four hours monitoring the
checkpoint. Officers said the purpose of the checkpoint was to increase
public awareness of the seriousness of driving with a valid license and
registration.
