Meyers having killer season at UMass

Jill Meyers, a former All-CIF volleyball performer from Huntington

Beach High, went into the University of Massachusetts record book Tuesday

night as the school’s all-time leader in kills.

Meyers, a senior, overtook the top spot with an 18-kill performance in a

three-game sweep of host La Salle in Philadelphia.

The output put the middle blocker at 1,700 career kills.

The three-time All-Atlantic Conference selection also broke another

milestone Monday in a 3-1 loss at Temple with a back-to-back

double-figure kill outing with 21 kills, to rank first on the school’s

list for matches with 10-plus kills with 90 in her career.

Another Huntington Beach product, Edison High graduate Kari Hogancamp,

has led the nation in digs for the past seven weeks with 5.21 digs per

game.

A senior outside hitter, Hogancamp has also led the conference in digs

since the beginning of the season and is averaging 5.23 digs per game in

Atlantic 10 matches heading into the final weekend of play.

She is the school’s all-time leader in digs, and is just 60 digs shy of

becoming the first player in UMass history to reach the 2,000 in her

four-year varsity career.

Meyers and Hogancamp, along with assistant coach Sarah Watters, will be

honored in a special ceremony prior to the start of Saturday’s

regular-season finale against visiting George Washington.

The UMass Minutewomen are 9-7 in conference play and 15-12 overall.
